ABOUT / THE STORY SO FAR

Hi, I'm
Inder Preet Singh Walia.

I build AI systems, love the research behind them, and care about the messy work of making them useful in the real world.

MY JOURNEY

A startup taught me to build.
Scale taught me to think bigger.

I began my career as a founding engineer and applied scientist at Omneky. I started by building machine learning models and exploring computer vision, then grew with the company into generative AI. By 2024, I was leading a team of eight engineers.

At a startup, my job never stopped at the model. I worked with product teams to choose what mattered, spoke with customers to turn real-world feedback into improvements, and helped ship applications on AWS ECS and EKS. I brought better software traceability and observability with Datadog, and built an end-to-end agentic ad-creation system that Omneky continues to use.

After experiencing the zero-to-one journey, I joined Meta as a Machine Learning Engineer. I wanted to learn what happens at the other end of the spectrum: designing and optimizing recommendation systems at large scale. Understanding how small modeling and systems decisions affect real products is what keeps me curious.

WHAT I WORK ON

Research meets production.

My experience spans LLM fine-tuning, agentic systems, evaluations, inference, RAG, model deployment, AWS infrastructure, computer vision, and traditional machine learning. I enjoy connecting the research to the end-to-end engineering needed to put it in people's hands.

BEYOND THE KEYBOARD

Always learning, often outdoors.

I love reading research papers, following new AI ideas, and building side projects just to see what I can learn. Teaching matters to me, too: while I was in India, I helped more than 1,000 students get started with machine learning.

When I'm not building, you'll usually find me playing football, at the gym, traveling, or listening to music.

LET'S BUILD SOMETHING USEFUL

Curious people make great collaborators.

I share what I learn here because good ideas grow through conversation. If you're a researcher, founder, engineer, or someone exploring an interesting problem in AI, I'd love to connect, exchange ideas, or collaborate.
